And here we go...
6) The Five Nations.
This is a hint at the history of Khorvaire. There were five nations in the ancient human dominated kingdom of Galifar. After the Last War a total of 12 splinter nations have emerged. Some still have the names of the pre-war nations (such as Breland, home to Sharn) while new ones have also cropped up (like the Mournlands). The Five Nations is a throwback to the calm before the storm so to speak.
7) A world of intrigue.
I already touched on this one earlier with #5. In a nutshell: multiple diverse factions from political to the churches; from arcane universities to the dragons themselves are all trying to get the biggest piece of the pie that is Khorvaire. Mmmm.....pie.
8) Dragonmark dynasties.
Ahh the dragonmarked houses of Eberron. Esentially they are the priveledged, the wealthy, the barons of commerce and industry. They are the Bill Gates, Howard Hughs, the Kennedys...you know the asshats with all the power and the priveledge of not having to answer to anybody except themselves. Only this time some of the family members have an arcane mark that grants them certain magical abilities based on which area of expertise the house's trade guild has has. Its the equivilency of Bill Gates having a magic mark that corrupts all computers into using windows as their OS. Sadly...no mark was required for that......
9) Dragonshards.
Crystals with arcane power. By themselves they can do great things or cause mass destruction....in large quantities the literal world of Eberron could be reshaped. That is why they are quite rare and generally become the reason so many adventuring parties are formed.
10) New races.
Yep, 4 new races. Kalashtar, shifters, changelings, and the warforged. All are quite unique and have their own niches in the world. Shifters are distant blood relatives of the were-creatures (like a genasi is to an elemental). The changelings are decendants of dopplegangers. Kalashtar are beings of psychic power. And the warforged are living constructs with a will of their own. Out of all the new races the warforged and shifters are my personal favorites.
And that concludes this basic entry bit o' info about Eberron. The next major thread I'll be doing will be about the gods of Eberron and afterwards we'll begin to talk about the Dragonmarked houses and their impact on the world.
