Yes, the author of the Wheel of Time series has passed away after a long battle with cardiac amyloidosis.
On the bright side, he has been making sure to get as much of the last book done as possible and told close friends and relatives the entire story. Yes, I'm a cold hearted bastard on this issue because I've been complaining for the last ten years that he should write faster since he wasn't a spring chicken when he started the story. AND the last few books have felt more like filler than actual story. AND I need to know how it fucking ends.
Anyway, God bless him for writing some great stuff (not all of it was terrific, but then not even Tolkien or Shakespeare hit home runs every time) and he will be missed.

Until he comes back from the dead to ghost write the post-pre-pre-quel.

Condolences to his family, and my own cold hearted Thank GOD the story will finally be done.
Honestly I gave up at book 5... Reading is supposed to be fun, not something I need to take notes for or have a cheatsheet to keep track of all the characters. Personally, I think it would have made a GREAT trilogy, not the monster it grew into.

It is a shame to see when great writers pass away.
I must say that I made it to book 3 before I threw my hands up and cried... " I surrender!!" and then was subsequently consumed by Balefire.
