I might be a little premptive in starting this thread, but maybe just maybe, it might sway some fencepost-sitters to want to join.
This is not a definite and I know there is a lot more to do..
I found an article on-line about running an escalation campaign for Warhammer/Warhammer 40K.
The rules are simple....
You start with a force of no more than 500 pts in one chosen army. This force can be re-arranged between battles, but can never go over 500 pts and you cannot switch armies. There are other guidelines but for sake of time, I will not post them now.
You randomly generate three (3) pieces of territory that you control. Each piece can give you bonuses and such to your army.
Each of the players pair up and fight a battle. With only 500 pts, you can probably play one in about 40-60 minutes. (2 a night?)
Each player "stakes" a piece of land and then a third piece is randomly generated. The winner keeps their own property and then chooses one of the two remaining. The Loser takes the land that is left. Limping away and licking their wounds.
No player may have more than 12 properties and if they gain another one, they much discard one.
This can go on for as long as you want. They recommend until at least two (2) players have twelve (12) properties. These two players then fight each other and a total winner is determined.
This works for 40K and Fantasy.
As you progress you can add troops and the point totals can go up. This of course means the game lengths will increase. It is supposed to represent skirmishers fighting for territory.
It looks rather interesting and doesn't require a huge expenditure to start.
What do you think?
