Okay, I think we need a bit of definition on Street Samurai:
Street Samurai does not mean his main weapon is his sword. Street Samurai is more along the lines that he is an honorable fighter for the lower masses, be it with an Assault Cannon, Ares Predator or Mono-katana. It's more of an outlook than equipment. Most street samurai carry a melee weapon simply because you end up in situations where it's the easiest method out, and wind up with katanas because they are deadly and cheaper than cyberblades.
That is all.

Samurai is used as a moniker of a "follower of the warrior's path". They are the trained guns, assassins and wet-works operatives of the world.
Samurai was the title given to a paid soldier in the employ of a feudal lord in Japan. They were paid to fight... plain and simple. They followed a strict code, called Bushido. This was their own way of seperating themselves from the masses. They believed in Honor, Duty, Loyalty, and Respect.. among others. They would rather die than to be captured or to let their Daimyo (Land-owning lord) down. In that same idea, the Street Samurai is a warrior with a code. He is not a stoic samurai wannabe but is rather a warrior who hones his or her skills to be the best at what they do. Some use cybernectics to give them the edge.... some use magic... others just rub their rabbit's foot and pull the trigger!! SPRAY AND PREY

We are talking about Shadowrun here right? You know the game were we're the criminals? Honor? Not here, not were the Johnsons will screw you over to save a centi cred. Street Rep is more important then Honor any day of the week.

And this begs the question - what will the tone of the game Matt intends to run be?

Good question, Charles...
I'm not going to push the "honor" issue. However, Street Rep (as Brian put it), isn't just based on if you complete the run or not. Street rep is more about how you pulled the run off. Sure, you got paid to pull the corp scientist, but there's a big difference in blowing a hole in the building, killing innocents and causing massive damage to do it versus going stealthy. Remember Street Rep goes both ways. If you're known as wild guns that kill without prejudice, you're probably not going to get offered that many jobs.
Perfect example would be the Firefly show. I know Phil & Charles don't like it, but the lifestyle they live on the show is probably the closest I've ever seen TV get to Shadowrunning. You're outsiders from the "normal" world, doing whatever you can to survive and keep living the way you want to live. This means swallowing your pride and beliefs at times to get money for food, but you can still turn down the jobs that really go against your beliefs.
Hope that helps.

They should also be made aware of what it means to SIN and be SINless. SINs are basically System Identification Numbers
Almost to a T, Shadowruners are all SINless, you don't exist. You're not a registered person, someone gaks a SINer you'll have corp security all over you looking to nail your hide to the wall. Gak a SINless, and it's another body in the street that no one cares about.

Hate to rain on people's parades, but street rep IS honor. If you are known as a double-crossing back stabber who cannot be trusted to complete a job.. you have no honor AND no Street Rep. Take it from me... I spent the vast majority of my gaming career playing Cyberpunk and Shadowrun.. i know the Streets of the Neon Jungle...
