Sage's Alliance
03-16-2006
Sage and the party argue long into the night about possible tactics when Jolie speaks up.
"I can speak to an animal....a bird, say. We will let someone know that we are here by giving the bird a message tied to its leg. They can help us form a plan, if they can fight within."
They agree on this method, and Jolie calls to a crow. She speaks strangely to him, ties a brief message (Sage and Party camped East. Need tactical instruction. Send reply.) to the creature. Promising him an abundance of food for his family upon his return, Jolie frees the bird and watches it fly into the city. He returns with a reply (Attack at dawn). Jolie urges the bird for one more flight, and sends one more urgent question (Which camp should we attack?). The bird returns, a trifle bored, but the reply will help them immensly (orange camp. Will support). Jolie allows him to feed his family from their supply, and satisfied, the bird retreats to the trees.
The party camoflauges themselves with mud and leaves and sneak into position at dawn. The MOL rise and arrange themselves for an attack, slowly getting their gear into position. Orcs are rallying around, readying themselves as well, but Sage notices movement at the city wall as the city calvery readies as well.
Long moments pass, and Sage has had enough waiting. In full warrior glory, she stand and holds her gleaming sword above her head and screams "Attack!" She surges for the biggest of the MOLs through the camp of slack-jawed infantry men. She drives her sword deep into his gut and diembowels him. She kicks him off of her sowd and goes for the next one. Chaos ensues within the MOL camp as cries are heard from the Orc camps. Citymen and the City Guard alike spew forth from the town as battle rages. Having the edge of suprise, the battle is over quickly. Orcs disperse, and the two friendly Orcs that the party met early on come to Sage, clap her on the shoulder, and run off towards the fleeing Orcs, grunting battle cries in Orcish.
5 MOLs mount and flee as well, but the town and party let them go, celebrating their victory. Unbeknownst to the party, they head for the small Hobbit-town of Small Marish, nearby.
A loud thunderclap comes from the valley in the East, reminding the Party that their task is not yet complete.
Lord Baerinder fills the Alliance in on what happened. Shortly after they had left for Ost-In-Edhil, the MOLs and Orcs surrounded and attacked the city. They had been holding out as long as possible, and were relieved we came to aid them at their very moment of need.
Someberly, the next day, the Alliance laid Decimus to rest next to his brother.
A man clad in black rides up to them as they are about to leave the tomb, and speaks to Sage.
"We need you in Rhudar. I am going to see your sister, Cian. I need her to do something for me, something incredibly difficult. If she fails, I will come for you. If I do not come for you, go to the city of Edanmar. If you cannot find me, nor your sister, brave Sage, you are going to Edanmar for revenge. Goodbye, cousins."
With that, he rides off.
Bristling with questions, the party finally goes bacl to Caras Marad, and fills the Inn with people listening to their amazing story of Rings, forges, Dragons, and illusions. Finally, they go to their home and sleep like they haven't slept in years.
