Ok, as I've been ever so slowly been working through my conversions of Paladium Rifts to my D20 Rifts I've run across a few snags. As said snags become problems I'll be posting them up here for debate, comments, what not
Snag 1: Charisma: While this stat works well with the D20 system that was built around it, Rifts was not. The thing comes to mind is this, I've a few classes that use Charisma for prime attributes. This in of itself isn't a problem... yet.
The problem is this, there are several races in Rifts that I would like to incorporate but am having a difficult time in balancing out certain things, such as
Charisma (looks)
vs
Charisma (force of personality)
The race I'll use as an example is one of the core races I'm putting into my Basic Book.
I'll but the Rifts Stats in then the D20 Stats
Grackle Tooth
MA (Mental Affinity aka force of personality) 2d6+14
PB (Physical Beauty aka how good they look to humans) 1d6+6
Cha: 3d6+4
What I want to do is reflect, that some of these races are going to not good looking to humans, but have these shining personalites.
The example I give with the GT is that, while they look like giant leather skinned reptiles, they got the peronalites that make then very very likable to others.
I know, Charisma is supposed to take into effect the balance between looks and personality, hence why right now the GT has a +4 to charisma instead of a penalty.
Now what I was thinking was going along with the Comliness *waves aside the hissesand boos*. Yes yes I know it was a bad idea in second, but I'll deal with it and take what I want and what I think might work while keeping with an ease of translation for the moment.
Now, that the shock and horror are over I'll explain. As Rifts has 8 attributes instead of the standard 6 we all know and love, I'll be adding an optional 7th.
FoP: Force of Personality
and
PB: Physical Beauty (replaces the Charisma attribute)
FoP will be the prime state for things like Sorcerers and Bard types as it's their charismatic personality that really effects people, but good looks don't hurt with the interpersonal interactions. So with all my rambling that tends to get done in posts like this.
The new stats for the Grackle Tooth would be:
FoP: 3d6+8
Cha: 3d6-2
The would reflect that while GTs are not the best looking of the bunch out there, they do have personalities that tend to make them friends easily.
