I was out with the family and I saw this a while ago. It is Heroscape with Marvel Comics heroes and villains. Yesterday we went out and I bought it. I figured with a lull in role-playing, I would focus my attentions on my kids. This game caught my eye and I thought that Nathan would like it.
First of all.... For those who do not know... Heroscape is a board game (of sorts) that allows the players to actually design the battlefield terrain in a 3-D aspect. The box set comes with a bunch of hex-plates that interlock. You can then build 3-D terrain and lay out your own battlefields. You then use nicely pre-painted plastic minis to run the battles.
The Marvel game included ten (10) nicely painted miniatures. Spiderman
Ironman
Hulk
Silver Surfer
Capt America
Venom
Doctor Doom
Abomination
Thanos
Red Skull
Unlike HeroCliks, the paint jobs are good and they have really nice sculpts.
The rules are fun and actually designed in two levels. One level is easy enough that Nathan and I have played several games. The "Master Level" rules are more in depth, but still flow and do not bog down game play.
I would have to say that I definitely have to recommend this game. The fantasy version is very similar in quality and there are a ton of booster packs and larger supplement boxes out there. This system is being heavily supported by Milton Bradley.
I really hope that there will be more minis coming for the Marvel Edition. The box set is named, The Conflict Begins, so there is hope.
I wouldn't mind seeing a DC version either. Yeah, I'd like to see a Green Lantern!! (Gee...go figure )
