Welcome to what I hope will be the start of Adventuring by Post on the boards. Over in the Story thread is where all of the action, intrigue and roleplaying will occur. This thread is hear to list the various rules for character creation, combat, posting and all else. If you're interested in joining the game, post a character idea here. This is open to anyone and everyone that wants to play. The only condition for posting is that you post whenever you can. Most of the story will be just that: story. So have conversations, lurk and listen, whatever. The only mandatory time that we'll need you to post is during combat when it's your initiative. So, without further ado, here are the rules: The DiceCharacter CreationCodingMapsRewards

Key to any good Play by Post game is the dice. Sure, we could use the "honor" system, but I think we'd all get sick of the sheer number of critical hits that would occur... The best site I've seen for virtual dice rolling is Invisible Castle. It saves the rolls under a character name so you can look up and see if someone's rolling over and over again to get the right number and gives you the code to copy and paste right into a post for easy use. They also have a nice Stat-roller, based on a 3x3 grid where you can get a good mix of numbers (4d6, drop lowest, reroll 1's) and assign them to the stats.

Using the [http://invisiblecastle.com/statgen.py?a=grid]Stat-Roller[/url] grid from Invisible Castle, assign your stats and save the URL link for reference when posting your character. Using the rules from the PHB and the Allowed lists below, build your 1st Level character. To be honest, I'm hoping that most of you want to play, because I'd like to have a large party going into this. After you finish building your character, post it to The Heroes forum thread. This thread will be the official character sheets for the game. In the thread is a some template code I recommend using to record your character. Now for the list of allowed races/classes: RacesClassesPrestige Classes FeatsAnything in the SRD is 100% acceptable. If there's another feat from other books out there, get together with me and we can figure out if it works in a) Faerun and b) the story. SpellsMost spells should be okay from either the SRD or the Spell Compendium. Just make sure you clear the list with me first.

When it comes to the story, stick to some basics.
Anything spoken IC is in blue. IC character thoghts should be italicized. Out of Character dialogue, actions or questions should be in gray. During combat, I'll be tracking any ongoing effects and such using the spoiler block at the end of the post. For spellcasters and those with special abilities, I recommend keeping track of spells cast or abilities used in the same manner.

When needed, I'll post image files showing the maps of where you are and when things are in relation to you.

Treasure will be listed as you find it. There is a Rewards thread where we'll be able to post the shares and divvy up everything out of character. Since I view experience as a near instantaneous life lesson, XP rewards will be give out after every combat. You can add it to your character right away and, if you have enough, you can level up immediately. Of course, if you want to wait a bit to level, or need to work on it a bit, you can wait and level up later as well. There will be some points where I'll insist everyone must have all XP applied before continuing the story, however.

How are spells being handled? The Spell Point system or the standard memorization stuff?
