I looked at the beguiler and, while a nice starting class, it doesn't strike me as the heroic archetype that's I'm envisioning for this adventure. So cunning, relying on wits, using illusion and guile to out-wit your enemies isn't heroic? I think our outlook on that class is quite different. However its your game so I'll abide by your call. I might change to fighter from knight though but I'll hash that out with everyone later.

Not that part, the part of them being compulsive liars and deceivers. The ultimate con-men and tricksters.
Not saying that you'd play him that way, but they are a more urban class than the rural classes of Forgotten Realms.

OK... How about a monk from the Order of the Still Hand. An order dedicated to Kelemvor. Kelemvor is the god of Death and the Dead. Unlike other deities, whose rule as gods of the dead made the afterlife an uncertain and fearful thing, Kelemvor urges knowledge that death is a natural part of life and should not be feared as long as it is understood. The Order is dedicated to ensuring that the dead are not disturbed and that the nature order of death is not disturbed. He dresses in dark colors and has tattoos of the crossed skeletal hands on his forearms. He carries a variety of weapons, mostly concealed. The goal of the order is to put people at ease.
What do you think??

Not saying that you'd play him that way, but they are a more urban class than the rural classes of Forgotten Realms. I still do not agree with your assessment at all on this because there are plenty of witty, slick, silver tongued country bumpkins out there that can just as easily decieve somebody as much as any urban hotshot can. Con men and tricksters are everywhere. Its how you use your glib tongue that separates you from the stereotype. Hell I could play a bard that acts the same as a beguiler (a charasmatic con man) and it would be no different. Think of George Clooney in 'O Brother'. A con man bumpkin. How about Huck Finn? Tom Sawyer (sp?)? The Dukes of Hazzard themselves? All slick, silvertongued bumpkins. I know I'm being a dick about this but I just can't see the arguement you're making being really fair to the class when I can do the same thing by being a bard. Or sorcerer. Or wizard. Or rogue. Its how you build it and how you use it not how the book says you 'need' to play it. I'm done with this train of thought now. If we want to debate semantics anymore we'll do it in person which is more enjoyable cause then our true inner geeks are set loose. Besides posting is too impersonal.

Or going Arcane Trickster for that matter.
However, I think I'll stick with 2 possibilites. Gnomish Bard or Human Mage (Invoker possibly)

As for me, I'm looking at Cleric, possibly Hunter fo the Dead later on, but at least someone who really dislikes the undead. Beyond that not sure of the backstory yet. Any restrictions on dieties I need to know about? Heck any suggestions on dieties? I haven't played a cleric in about 8 years or so and that was a one shot deal. So I am looking forward to this. ;D

I'll try to make Envira as "non-con" as she can be... Better yet, I will stay out of this argument.

Its not really an arguement though. Posting on a forum doesn't give the tone of my voice when I'm 'speaking' here. I'm not worked up & in fact quite monotone about it. Its not to be taken in that way. Don't get me wrong, this is Matt's baby & I respect & will abide with his call on this. No problems with that here. I just don't agree with the reasoning behind it but I'm very ok with the decision. I can see his point to a degree but I don't have to agree with it, ya know?
Or maybe I just wanted to spice something up so this friggin' board actually starts getting some posts on it! ;D

Or maybe I just wanted to spice something up so this friggin' board actually starts getting some posts on it! ;D Thanks! I agree, it's mostly semantics on the class and the debate would be better had offline. As for the other stuff... Sunshine, as long as Envira can find traps and be decent about disarming them, the group should be in good shape. Brian, since it looks like you might be the magical punch of the group, going for invoker might be better off. Simon, I like this idea. Run with it. Jess, which god(dess)? Wow, there's like 100+. The ones that are right OUT are Bane, Cyric and Shar. No way. Recommendations? Lathander, Mystra, Oghma, Selûne, Tymora are some of my personal favorites and common deities of adventurers. Here's a list of the pantheon. Phil's also got the Faiths book for more detail. If going with Hunter of the Dead, Lathander and Kelemvor would both be terrific to choose from. Phil, not to dangle the carrot, but if you go with Knight, I can see Purple Knight in the future of the character because of what goes down in the first book.

Then argument was a poor choice fo words. Can't wait to see this "debate" in person.
If that comes to be...
And yes, Envira (well, she will be re-named, just don't know what as of yet) will be well-honed in trap detection and disarming skills (or feats, whatever).
Looking forward to getting her up and running.
