So, got this in my email this evening:
Apparently, WotC has decided the best method for fighting piracy of their digital products is to cease selling their products through two of the best sites (Paizo and DriveThruRPG.com) on the net. This would be akin to Sony, to prevent music piracy, stopping all of there music from being released on iTunes.

Makes sense to me..... .... wait..... was that a bell tolling? EDIT: On the morning of 07-APR-08, I received the same email. I know I was slammed for saying this in the past and hard feelings were had... but am I the only one that sees this as the beginning... actually just another step towards the middle.. of the end of D&D as we know it and one step closer to some generic... dumbed down (to the point of stupidity) version of what WotC can sell to the mindless masses.

They may be selling their dumbed down version, but the rest of us will be off playing Pathfinder...

Yup, I plan on picking up Pathfinder and then sitting at the steps of WotC and going hey this is awesome!
I may be booted from GenCon.... but oh it'll be worth it.
And Simon, you weren't the only one saying it. D&D will continue in one form or another but the age of 4e is going to be shorter then any other.

The fun part is that the WotC forums and the ENWorld forums are both pro-4E, generally speaking, and still 95% of the people posting on them are calling this the dumbest mistake they have ever made. The general idea is that by removing the only source of legal PDFs on the web, WotC has now encouraged piracy of their books since that will be the only method to get PDFs.
Myself, I've come up with the following theory:
The DDInsider subscription isn't doing as well as they hoped, so they are going to announce sometime within the next month, that all D&D Insider subscribers will be able to purchase PDFs of the books at 33% off cover price. Thus making them the only market (besides the pirate market) for PDFs on-line.

It's like watching a little war.... where each side has to write out what they're doing and give it to the other, only one side is illiterate.
That had me HOWLING with laughter. Think I know what I'm gonna buy and flaunt.

That is classic!!!
I think that Pathfinder will become THE new game.
WotC is cutting off a vital source of potential income.
Ironically, I have recently pulled out my old Star Wars D20 stuff. Of course, WotC has since brought out the SAGA Edition and this seems to be a D&D 4th Edition-like system.
Alas.... I won't be buying Pathfinder since I do not play it and do not see the possibility in the foreseeable future.

Ironically, I *like* the Saga Edition for the same reasons I dislike 4th Edition. The balancing act that makes all the classes equal works very well in the world of Jedi and Force-users, so you're not simply sidekicks to the guy with the lightsaber (not saying we were, but when you can pull a Star Destroyer out of the sky...)

Ah good times, still loved Trosk at that last battle.... mmmm he's how far away? Right, can I charge him by first leaping on the battle droid, running from droid to droid and then leap over the tank, charge up the stairs and hit him? I can? Score! Woot, stunning first charge of epic sauce worked.... what do you mean they're powering up the cannons?
