I think I broke it... 4th Edition, I mean. I was tossing around ideas of a character in 4th edition and came up with a nice human rogue. Nothing's really broken about it until I tell you that he's 85 years old. And there's no penalties for that. He's as spry as a 16 year old rogue.

Heh, just had it pointed out to me that the sycophantic kobolds in the cartoon could be seen as the people for D&D as well...

Okay, I just read this editorial on Wizards. No offense to my former players, but if that happened in a game I was running, you'd have an escape chance, but that's it. This is why I don't think 4E is D&D. Dungeons & Dragons is about your characters making a difference and trying to right wrongs. My job, as DM, is to give you a story you want to make your own and provide obstacles to that path. If you cannot figure out how to get around, over or through the obstacle, then I've done my job as the evil mastermind. That's not to say obstacles are impossible to overcome, but the EL and CR's were put in place to give the DM an idea of how tough the obstacle is. We make it just tough enough for you to have to work for it, not lay down doormats so you can get to the finish line.

Last game, golems, we couldn't hurt them so we did the only logical thing we could. Tucked our tails under us and ran as fast as we could away from them.
Running away is something people forget. It's a perfectly viable tactic for dealing with something you can't deal with or aren't prepared to deal with.

I don't think I have really heard anybody singing the praises of 4th edition and to be honest.... I'm still actually a little surprised we have not seen 4.5 yet. I find it rather humorous that a "tactical retreat" is something that people do not use. I once read that in battle all a soldier does is run. Runs to a battle Runs to maneuver in a battle Runs to make a tactical withdrawal to plan a new route to run into the battle. After watching 300 and Meet the Spartans.... I would love to see how a Spartan would do. Tongue kissing and Sprayed on abs and singing, "I will survive"... Oh My DAMN!!! that would be a fun character!!

No 4.5 because they still haven't moved all the 4.0 crap onto the shelves yet.
